About Cynthia Whitney

Cynthia Whitney paints her favorite colors representing florals, wildlife, and landscapes. Her formal painting studies began in 1961 when she studied design at the University of Miami. During the early 1990's she renewed her studies at the former Dianne Mize Studio in Clarkesville, GA, with renderings of wildlife, florals, and portraits in charcoal and graphite. Since 1995, she has concentrated on watercolors using vivid, transparent pigments. A great appreciation for the intricacies of nature, both flora and fauna, has directed most of her paintings. While continuing her studies with Dianne Mize, she has also studied with Nita Engle, AWS, for invitational workshops; Cheng-Khee Chee, Tony Couch, Arleta Pech, Maggie Price, Don Andrews, and Charles Reid in workshops she organized in Sautee, Georgia, under the name Art Immersion Workshops. Subject matter for these works has been the result of travels in the U. S. A., Canada and abroad, in addition to local reference material.

Cynthia Whitney

Cynthia spent the first half of her life in Coral Gables, Florida, with the tropical surroundings which are often reflected in the colors she uses. In 1973, she and her family moved to Lake Burton, in the mountains of Northeast Georgia, where they owned and participated in a marina, craft shop, and real estate business while raising three children. Cynthia’s first venture into the world of painting was during the nineteen sixties when she designed and painted needlepoint canvases for friends and family to stitch. This later became a popular business. Since 2002, Cynthia and her husband have been living in Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, on Lynch Mountain overlooking the Sautee Valley and the Appalachian Trail.

Cynthia Whitney’s paintings can be found in private and corporate collections in this country and in international private collections. Professional affiliations have included the Southeastern Pastel Society, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, Southern Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, and the American Watercolor Society.
